Elections 2008!

On this last of weekdays, I ask my fellow living beings to aim
their gaze upwards and dare to dream. For without dreams we
are but lowly robots simply filling a task, passing time before
we leave this Earth. I understand making those dreams reality
is not the easiest of quests. People around often sneer at dreamers
and sow seeds of discouragement. I say ignore those who would
bring you down. There is no shame in dreaming, no shame in
hoping and certainly no shame in trying. Dreams bring us the
stars and dreams bring us together.
I am here to tell you, my fellow living beings,
to keep dreaming, keep hoping and keep trying.

During these elections, I promise to be attentive,
daring and sometimes, well most times, belligerent.
On that note, it is with glee that I launch my
campaign's official super-duper, trademarked motto:

Gray dawn appears; the sportsman and his train
Speckle the bosom of the distant plain;
'Tis he, the Nimrod of the neighbouring lairs,

True BEAGLE as the stanchest hound he keeps.

The 2-D Capers Of Genghis & Felix-Part 11

Le Chien d'Or
I saw this neat thing when I was in Québec City.

The inscription reads:
Je suis un chien qui ronge lo
En le rongeant je prend mon repos
Un tems viendra qui nest pas venu
Que je morderay qui maura mordu

Translation:
I am a dog that gnaws a bone
In gnawing it I take my rest
A time will come which is not yet
When I shall bite him who has bitten me

Golden Dod: stone bas-relief bearing the figure of a dog gnawing a bone.
The stone was built into a house erected by Timothée Roussel in Québec
City in 1688. It may have been set there by Roussel or by Nicholas
Philibert, who bought the house in 1734 and may have used the image to
protest the corrupt practices of Intendant François Bigot. In 1871 the
house was destroyed to make way for a post office, and the stone was
moved to the new building's portico.

The many legends connected with the Golden Dog all turn on revenge and
end in tragedy. One version was the basis for William Kirby's Golden Dog.
